Playing his third game in IPL 2023, it was the first instance Joe Root got to bat. Walking in after both openers were dismissed for a duck, the onus was on the former England captain to resurrect the innings. He played a scratchy innings, trying to rotate the strike but consumed many a dot balls in the process.
He eventually managed a boundary of a scoop shot but was the only highlight of the innings. Wayne Parnell soon sent him packing with an inswing yorker. Root could only manage 10 off 15 balls. Unfortunately, RR stumbled to 59 and Root was the second best scorer of the match.
